Jolly Scuppa
crew 2007
We
scupped 16 miles this summer from the Montegue dam to
the Holyoke dam on the Connecticut river. the trip took four days. we
battled stiff winds on the 3rd and
fourth day but we had Matt's new canoe with it's small outboard motor
to get us out of the tight spots. The river seems fairly healthy
especially north of the Sunderland bridge. Since 1983 Lincoln, Scott,
Tim, Mark, Matt, Tony and friends have constructed then floated the
Jolly Scuppa on the Connecticut river 5 times.
We make music, cook, fish, camp and swim all along the way. This trip
ended with a great wrestling match in which Matt's phone was washed and
Tim was thrown in with his chair. We were towed by motor boat from
Rainbow Beach to the Oxbow. During the tow we were accompanied by 5
boats in a mighty floatilla. There have been no sightings
of the terrible Zoogladon but splashes of its
mighty tail resounded in the night.
